We are a research cluster rooted in six of Sheffield's most deprived GP practices, brought together by a shared belief that everyone, regardless of where they live or their background, deserves to benefit from and shape medical research.
Supported by the NIHR, we deliver portfolio studies across our practices while working to challenge a wider problem: too many research studies are not designed with our patients in mind. From limited interpreter provision to exclusionary eligibility criteria, the barriers are real and we are working to dismantle them.
At the heart of our cluster is a commitment to genuine community partnership. We work alongside our Patient and Public Involvement group, developed in collaboration with DERA at the University of Sheffield, to ensure that the voices of people living in deprived and diverse communities are not just included, but heard.
Our work spans interventional trials, including studies for COVID-19 treatments, through to qualitative research exploring patient and practitioner experience. Whatever the study, our aim is the same: to make research more relevant, more accessible, and more equitable for the communities we serve.
